The Supreme Court on Tuesday continued hearing petitions on the issue of stray dogs, warning that states may be held liable to pay compensation in cases where dog bites lead to injury or death, especially involving children or the elderly.’
The court also questioned accountability, asking those who claim to be feeding stray dogs to do so from their own homes.“Why should dogs be littering around, biting and scaring people?” the bench observed.
Justice Mehta concurred with his views and said, “Who should be held accountable when dogs attack a 9-year-old? The organisation that is feeding them? You want us to shut our eyes to the problem.”
